Turner Hill Vs Sandgropers. Johnny Waddells Race Report

Sandgroper is an Aussie term for a Western Australian resident (WA), named after the sand-burrowing desert insect.

Western Australians are known for being sandgropers because our terrain isn’t too steep and it is very dry. These conditions have been a great learning experience. Sandgropers are mountain bikers in West Australia who have dedicated themselves to organizing races. Our XC state round 3 was held at Turner Hill, Dwellingup WA. This track is a true masterpiece. The course is challenging with 95% of it being single-track, with fast descents and steep climbs. Mountain bike race organizers and fans went to great lengths to ensure that the event was exciting and fun for all levels of mountain bikers. Trail builders included log-overs as well as drops, bridges, and double jumps. Depending on the level of riders, alternative B lines were used for those who weren’t ready to ride.

Racing is okay That’s why we are here.

Although the soil was very grippy from the rainfall that fell before race day, today was sunny and warm. My Santa Cruz Blur XC with Rock Shox rear and front suspension felt smooth and kept my wheels securely on the ground. It was a Santa Cruz Blur XC. We were all racing to be in the best place before we entered the single track. The race was about who could race the most smoothly over the technical sections, keeping up with the pace and going up the hills.

After having fun at the trials, I was happy to finish in 7th place in the Elite category. Perhaps I should get out my study books and train more.

I look forward to a 6-hour race on my carbon blurs, which are amazing and very well made. As you set a pace and push yourself through the entire race, the longer the races go, the more comfortable you feel. Keep watching.

My loyal supporters make it possible for me to push my body to its limits.
